Along with what everyone else has said, HDMI connections are still kinda new on some cable company's boxes. Cox communications here has them on their Motorola boxes but they haven't enabled the signal on it. Everytime I've hooked one up, it displays a picture then an error saying this connection not enabled please use Component or DVI connection. Kinda stupid if you ask me.

The reason for that stuntman is probably because there is a known bug with the HDMI ports on the Motorola DVR/HD boxes. Comcast uses the same box and enables the HDMI and this is how the bug became known. Apparently 5.1 DD audio does not get passed through when using HDMI.
