Apple’s Anti-Smut Program

Apple’s Anti-Smut Program

Apple has started a campaign to purge applications from what it considers as inappropriate content. This is focused on both iPhone and iPod applications:

“… Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of worldwide product marketing, said Apple was responding to numerous complaints from women and parents who found the content objectionable or degrading, according to The New York Times. Applications dumped by Apple include SlideHer, Dirty Fingers: Screenwash, and almost every application containing the word “boobs.”"

As experienced internet users will recognize, this will be a somewhat futile effort as the sexual content will be endless. However, this campaign has generated considerable positive press for Apple. It positions Apple in a positive light. And in the marketplace, public perception generates increased cash flow.
