Michael Jackson School Sign Covered Up During Molestation Trial Restored
It's been covered since 2003.

LOS ANGELES -- The Michael Jackson Auditorium sign at Gardner Elementary School in Hollywood has been uncovered after about 7 years.
Boards were placed over the sign when Jackson was charged with child molestation in 2003. They remained up after his subsequent acquittal.
Since Jackson's death last year, fans have wanted the sign uncovered. They even created a Facebook group asking for it to be restored.
LAUSD Superintendent Ramon Cortines heard those requests, and directed the cover to be removed. Cortines said the gesture was done "in recognition of Michael Jackson's musical legacy and contribution to modern culture."
A school district spokesman said the decision was made in large part because Jackson had been acquitted of criminal charges in the molestation case.
The Gardner auditorium was dedicated to Jackson in 1989.
Jackson briefly attended the school. He was an 11-year-old sixth grader there when the Jackson 5 released their debut album in 1969.
